About us

The participants of the WCRP/SCAR International Programme for Antarctic Buoys (IPAB) work together to maintain a network of drifting buoys in the Southern Ocean, in particular over sea ice, to provide meteorological and oceanographic data for real-time operational requirements and research purposes. IPAB is sponsored by the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) and Scientific Committee of Antarctic Research (SCAR), and contributes to the WCRP's Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) program. IPAB contributes to the Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS) and Antarctic Sea Ice Processes & Climate (ASPeCt) SCAR expert group, and closely cooperates with the international Arctic Buoy Programme (IABP).
